Austin began to read his own books after learning through his parents reading to him. He soon started more in elementary school, especially after moving in the first grade and losing his old friends. Reading became part of his life more, and it became easy to do. Reading so much helped him become good at it, and by the third and fourth grade he was reading three grades above his level. He loved reading fiction because, like many other people, it took him to another place. Him and his friends read the Warriors series. Coming home and sitting in his room with no interruptions or sound made it easy for him to do everyday. But, as he grew older, he began getting more and more homework as he continued to move up in grades. This made it harder for him to read, as well as people being louder at school and disrupting SSR. When choosing books, he looks for things that will simply interest him, and not bore him to death while he reads them. He prefers to read books with some sort of magical presence in them, because that's what he finds to be the most interesting. Now, during his senior year, he really doesn't read as much as he should. After a hectic junior year that was filled with homework, he's having trouble getting back into reading at home, but is hoping to get back into it this year. Overall, he finds that reading is an important thing to do, and that everyone should take the time to sit down and enjoy a book. Even if it's just one or two books a year, it's good to keep it as a skill in life. He isn't reading any books, but he might find something good soon. The only books he read this summer are the ones he took for the class. Last year, he read about five or six books for junior year honors english. One of his favorite authors is John Green, especially Looking for Alaska and Paper Towns. In his house, there are maybe over fifty books. Most of them are from when he was young, or books that his dad reads. He is a reader who, to be honest, only reads when he has to. He just doesn't have the time to read at home anymore, because he has so much going on. Over the last few years, his reading has remained pretty much the same, but is still decent.
Austin is really not much of a writer, but he is pretty good at it. He puts hard work into his writing, but has a hard time getting started with it. People typically learn to write in the early grades of school, and get better at it as they age. Some people write as a stress manager, like to release their feelings, or they can just write to make stories. Writing can be defined as good in many different ways, because everyone has different preferences in what writing they like. Austin believes that most writing just needs good grammar. He likes to write essays mostly, just because he's been forced to do so much and that's just what he's gotten good at. His ideas just typically come from his views on the world or politics. Nothing else really helps him come up with things. Most things that help with his writing are responses that correct grammatical errors. He doesn't write at home, like at all. He only writes at home when he has a papers that need to be done. He feels okay about what he writes. All of his teachers have told him that he is a good writer, so it helps him to continue to improve his writing.
